The Fablehaven Series

The Fablehaven series includes five books: Fablehaven, Rise of the Evening Star, Grip of the Shadow Plague, Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary, and Keys to the Demon Prison. This series was the first that I read aloud to my oldest who was then just 7. We were both utterly captured by the amazing world Mull created. We stayed up long into the night, wanting to read just one more chapter!  My son, now 10, still talks about those books we read alone together in the middle of the night. Fablehaven is about a secret nature preserve for mystical and magical creatures. The caretaker’s grandchildren become involved in a plot to protect the world from imprisoned demons. The whole series is wonderful, imaginative, and fabulous.  It's a clean read, not too scary for little ones, but exciting and gripping all the same. These books lit the fire for a love of reading in my then-reluctant reader, and for that, I'll always be fond of Brandon Mull.
